Applying for College

Following these steps will help you select the college or university that's right for you:
  • Visit campus websites and request catalogs from the colleges and universities that interest you
  • Make appointments to tour those campuses

  • Take the ACT assessment; check with the campuses to make sure you meet their testing deadlines

  • Apply to the campuses you've selected

  • Have your high school transcript sent to the campuses where you've applied

  • Verify that you have met the minimum admission standards with each campus' registrar's office

  • Contact the campus financial aid offices and apply for financial aid

  • Make sure you and your parents complete both the federal and state income tax forms as soon as possible after Jan. 1

  • Use information from the current income tax forms to apply for federal and state grants and loans using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Consider applying for institutional and private scholarships offered by the campuses you've selected

  • Weigh your options and select your college or university
