SWK 250 Interpersonal Skills SWK 255 Social Work in a Modern Society This course is designed to provide an introduction to the profession of social work. Course content includes the history and development of the profession; the assumptions which underlie social work goals, functions, and methods; the professional values guiding practice; and description of practice methods. The course also offers the student opportunities to learn about social roles and practice settings. SWK 256 Development of Social Welfare This course covers the history, value, political and economic conditions which influence the development and provision of social welfare services. Information about inequality, and the major social welfare programs that benefit the disadvantaged, is included. A basic analytic model will be presented to evaluate social welfare policies. SWK 257 Human Behavior in the Social Environment This foundation course uses ecological/social systems theory as the overall conceptual framework. Bio-psycho-socio-cultural aspects of human development are emphasized along with a recognition of the reciprocal interactions and transactions of multiple systems that influence human development throughout the life span. A paradigms framework is used for presenting human behavior theory and diversity. (Prerequisities: PSY 101, BIOL 100 & SOC 101.) The following individuals are leaders for this discipline.
