MUSC 100 Music Appreciation
Introduction of elements, genre, media, and historical and stylistic periods of music.

MUSC 101 Fundamentals of Music
Introduction to fundamental elements of music through the study of scales, chords, basic harmonic progressions, rhythms, and terminology.

MUSC 103 Introduction to Music History
Introduction to the major works of music in the Western tradition which define the stylistic elements of musical periods in history.

MUSC 104 Introduction to Music Literature to 1825
Understanding and appreciating musical styles and composers up to circa 1825 with some emphasis on the relationship of music to concurrent social and artistic trends.

MUSC 105 Introduction to Music Literature: 1825 to the Present
Understanding and appreciating musical styles and composers from circa 1825 to the present with some emphasis on the relationship of music to concurrent social and artistic trends.

MUSC 106 Music Literature I
This course will develop the student's familiarity with composers and compositions from antiquity to 1825. Focus is on listening and identification of style and period.

MUSC 107 Music Literature II
An extension of MUSC 106, this course focuses on composers and compositions from 1825 to the present. Prerequisite: MUSC 106.

MUSC 108 Roots of American Popular Music
Survey of American popular music and musicians from Civil War times through the present with an emphasis on historical and sociological influences. Designed for non-music majors.

MUSC 110 Foundations of Music
This course is designed for the Elementary Education Major as reparation for MUSC 305 - Music Activities for Elementary Teachers. Counts towards general education requirements for elementary education majors only. Hands-on collaborative/cooperative learning activities that enable students to learn the basic fundamentals of music in an experiential context.

This course is a group instruction in the fundamentals of music. It is for students who desire concentrated instruction in vocal technique.

MUSC 200 Music in America
An historical survey of music in America from pre-colonial times through the twentieth century, including Classical, Ethnic, Folk, and Popular traditions. Will include listening techniques and writing about music.

MUSC 201 World Music
Survey of the music cultures of major non-Western and non-Anglo North American ethnic groups of the world.

MUSC 203 Popular and Classical Music of the World
A study of the music of selected cultures of the world and ethnic sub-cultures in America; includes Native American, Jazz, Popular, and World Music.

MUSC 205 History of U.S. Through Music
Designed for non-music major and may be used as partial fulfillment of the Humanities requirement. American music which accompanied significant historical eras and development will be studied.

MUSC 207 History of Popular/Rock Music
A survey of popular/rock music from 1900 to present. Provides a decade by decade review of variations in the form and the sociological impact of music.
