BISMARCK, N.D. - Today, the North Dakota University System and particularly Bismarck State College mourns the loss of Dr. Kermit Lidstrom.

"What I found as BSC president is that Kermit may have been retired, but he was never retiring," said Dr. Larry C. Skogen, interim NDUS chancellor and former BSC president. "We loved knowing that any day might be a day when our biggest fan would stop by or call with an accolade or a suggestion. He was never short of either.

"Kermit loved BSC and showed it in his tireless support of BSC students, its Foundation and its employees. He'll be missed everywhere, but especially in the stands during volleyball and basketball games where he could always be found rooting for the Mystics."

Accomplishments
A Mandan native, President Kermit Lidstrom became president of BSC in 1977 and served in the role for 17 years.

He established the Bismarck State College Foundation in the late 1970s with $69,000 in assets. Today, the Foundation has grown to $29 million in assets, and recently surpassed $10 million in total grant and scholarship funding.

Other accomplishments during his tenure include:
The reorganization of the BSC National Alumni Association
Expansion of the Division of Community Services
Campus beautification including the planting of hundreds of trees and flowers
Garnering legislative and community support for the Jack Science Center
