SBHE narrows candidate list for interim chancellor

In today's special meeting, the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education narrowed its slate of candidates from 16 to six for the position of Interim Chancellor of the North Dakota University System.
After an initial discussion about the qualifications of an ideal candidate, including the abilities to create an environment of collaboration, to demonstrate accountability and transparency, and to build good will and trust for the system, the Board chose the following pool of candidates:
Kendall Blanchard, Ph. D., Americus, Ga., president, Georgia Southwestern State University
Gordon Davies, Ph. D., Richmond, Va., former senior adviser, Lumina Foundation
Bruce Furness, Fargo, N.D., former Fargo mayor; former interim director/CEO Workforce Safety and Insurance
Shane Goettle, J.D., Mandan, N.D. , former ND Commerce Commissioner; current public affairs director for Odney Advertising
Larry C. Skogen, Ph. D., Mandan, N.D., acting interim chancellor, NDUS; president, Bismarck State College
Michael Wartell, Ph. D., Fort Wayne, Ind., chancellor emeritus, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne
Video or face-to-face interviews will be the next step in the selection process. The Board expects to make its final decision at its Sept. 25 meeting.
