Montelione accepts position as DSU's director of bands

The Department of Music at Dickinson State University announced the appointment of the new director of bands and assistant professor of trumpet, Dr. Joseph Montelione. Montelione comes to DSU from Rhodes College, where he has served as assistant professor of music since 2008.

At DSU, Montelione will lead the instrumental program, as well as teach applied brass and other courses as needed in the department. He holds a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Southern California, a master of arts degree from George Mason University and a bachelor of music from the State University of New York College at Fredonia.

As a performer, Montelione has been a trumpet clinician for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a member of the artist faculty for the National Trumpet Competition and a performing artist-educator for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and the New England Music Camp. He has performed with the Alabama Symphony, Moscow State Radio Symphony, Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, Erie Symphony and Washington Symphony Orchestra.

Additionally, he has worked with Billy Joel, Tony Bennett, Charlie Daniels, Amy Grant, Don Menza, Bob Mintzer and Wessell Anderson. Montelione has spent time in the Broadway pit orchestras, performing "Victor/Victoria" with Julie Andrews, "King and I" with Lou Diamond Philips, and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" with Nathan Lane.
