UND Law School spring commencement set for May 5

Posted on 4/27/2012

The University of North Dakota School of Law will hold its spring commencement ceremony at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 5, in the Chester Fritz Auditorium on campus. Seventy-eight candidates are eligible to receive juris doctor degrees.

Four graduates will receive the first certificates bestowed under the school's Indian Law Certificate Program. It began in spring 2011 and was the first program of its kind at UND Law.

Students fulfilling program requirements will receive a certificate of acknowledgment, a notation of completion of the program on their transcript, and the opportunity to signal their commitment to and command of an increasingly important and expanding area of law. Law students were required to take 17 credits in classes related to Indian law and tribal law.

North Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerald VandeWalle, a UND Law School graduate, will deliver the commencement address. Representing the North Dakota State Board of Higher education at the ceremony will be board President Grant Shaft.
