DSU Form and Fusion to incorporate more than dance May 5-6 Posted on 4/24/2012
Dickinson State University's annual Form and Fusion performance is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 6, at 2:30 p.m. in Dorothy Stickney Auditorium, May Hall.
The performance will feature a variety of dance styles such as jazz lyrical, salsa and contemporary. The dance company of 22 students is directed by student director Jessica Aparicio and under the supervision of Pattie Carr, instructor of fine and performing arts at DSU.
"Being a student director is an honor and wonderful learning experience," said Aparicio. "I like to be involved and to have a say on my ideas with dance, as well as listen to others. By being the student director, I get a chance to do both."
The annual performance which typically features mainly dance pieces will be incorporating poetry this year written by DSU student and company member, Robert Meador.
"Ms. Carr told me that she heard that I knew how to articulate complete sentences and asked me to write four poems for the dance performance," said Meador. "I said, ‘Yes ma'am.' It's been fun."
Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for seniors and students 18 and under. DSU students, faculty and staff are free with valid I.D. Reservations may be made weekday afternoons in May Hall 207 or by calling 483-2154.
