Kansas City Jazz Quartet to perform at Minot State
Minot State University, in partnership with the Minot Area Council of the Arts, will host a Midwest-based group of jazz musicians, the Doug Talley Quartet, Jan. 14 and 15.
The Doug Talley Quartet will visit Minot-area schools Jan. 14 to talk jazz with students and perform a "Jazz Jam" with community and student musicians from 8 to 10 that night at the MSU Beaver Dam. The two-hour evening event is open to the public. The quartet will then spend Jan. 15 conducting master classes and clinics in the morning and afternoon on the Minot State University campus.
The visit from the Doug Talley Quartet will culminate in a feature concert, Jan. 15 at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall on MSU's campus. The Minot State University Jazz Ensemble will join the quartet during a few of the tunes. This concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., tickets cost $10. The quartet was formed in 1995 and have performed at numerous festivals and concerts in states such as Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Indiana. The four members of the group are Wayne Hawkins, piano; Tim Brewer, bass; Doug Talley, saxophones; and Keith Kavanaugh, drums.
