NDSU library staff members volunteer with Habitat for Humanity

Posted on 6/22/2017

NDSU Libraries staff members volunteered with Lake Agassiz Habit for Humanity on a house building project June 6 in Moorhead, Minnesota. Staff members assisted to install a window, dig around the house for siding placement and cut plywood to complete the garage's skeletal structure.

"A day of heavy wind and hammering offered challenges and team-building opportunities for everyone involved," said volunteer Amanda Booher, NDSU Libraries communications and program coordinator.

Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity has built 53 homes in Cass and Clay counties in partnership with local volunteers and local families. Families selected for a house apply and meet eligibility requirements. Accepted families contribute hundreds of hours of volunteer time building their future home.

Habitat for Humanity collaborates with persons in need to provide homes at no profit and they arrange for financing of affordable, no-interest loans. New homeowners are responsible for a monthly mortgage payment that goes into a fund to help support future structures.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
