NDSCS student Tyler Loll named 2012 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar

Posted on 3/14/2012

Tyler Loll, a North Dakota State College of Science student and Wahpeton native, has been named a 2012 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar. Loll, along with 49 other students from the United States, Canada, and Guam, will receive a $2,000 scholarship, plaque, and will be recognized in the April 23 edition of USA Today as well as at the American Association of Community Colleges Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Selection was based on the score earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, where Loll achieved the highest score in North Dakota. The New Century Scholars Program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation, Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa, and American Association of Community Colleges. Together they recognize outstanding community college students. More than 1,700 students were nominated from more than 800 community colleges for recognition. Judges consider grades, leadership, activities and most importantly, how students extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom.

NDSCS is a two-year, comprehensive college with a residential campus located in Wahpeton, N.D., and a commuter campus, referred to as NDSCS-Fargo, located in north Fargo, N.D. NDSCS offers degrees, certificates and diplomas in over 80 academic options in traditional career and technical studies as well as liberal arts. The College also offers a variety of distance education and online courses. Approximately 99 percent of graduates are employed or pursuing additional education.

Unlike most two-year colleges, NDSCS in Wahpeton boasts a university atmosphere with over 20 affiliated student clubs and organizations, music groups, theater productions, intercollegiate athletics, intramural athletics and numerous social activities.
