The Dickinson State University Alumni Association is sponsoring the Blue Hawk Speech Tournament to be held primarily at DSU's May Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on March 3.
The event, which is done in honor of former DSU professor Winnie DeLong, will also feature an awards ceremony at 3:00 p.m. and proceeds go towards speech and theater scholarships.
Area high schools, featuring 300 to 400 students from Mandan to Beach, are expected to attend with winners going on to participate in state competition. Up to 14 speech categories will include everything from drama duo, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, and radio broadcasting to speeches aimed at entertaining, informing and persuading. The public is urged to attend. For additional information about North Dakota high school speech competition, go to the North Dakota High School Activities Association website at www.ndhsaa.com and click on "Fine Arts" and then on "Speech."
